Yesterday, we make turkey soup with leftover turkey from Thanksgiving. Instead of having the soup with crackers, Grandma suggested we add dumplings (American style dumplings made with Bisquick) to the soup. It was delicious!
Grandma has a recipe book called Top Secret Recipes where the author, Todd Wilbur, figured out / recreated his favorite dishes from restaurants. Grandma’s favorite is the Kentucky Fried Chicken Cole Slaw. She showed us the book twice and mentioned how much she loved that KFC Cole Slaw. She was pleasantly surprised when we told her yesterday we would make the KFC Cole Slaw. The recreated recipe was spot on, and after sitting overnight in the fridge, the cole slaw was absolutely delicious. If you want this recipe, I’ll share it with you even though it’s “Top Secret”.
Wait ’til you taste the dessert
I shamelessly told Grandma I give tonight’s dinner an “A”. She said, “Wait ’til you taste the dessert.” The Dump Cake was truly superb, and it was really easy to make (see photo of recipe). We used apple pie filling instead of cherry pie filling. It’s like a cobbler and we served it with whipped cream. Since it was still warm and the walnuts still crunchy, vanilla ice-cream would have been perfect too.
Grandma, Kenric and I all agreed that tonight’s dinner was epic. Nothing fancy yet so very delicious. I’ll never forget this evening. We’re making zucchini casserole tomorrow!
Living by Grandma’s wise words, “If something’s going to kill you, it might as well be ice-cream. Go happy!”
