We took a very brief funicular ride up to Ljubljanski grad (Ljubljana Castle). It’s a medieval castle rebuilt from the 15th century, after a devastating earthquake. Rounds of renovations after that, with the current one lasting 40 years, left it with very few original parts.
There’s an interactive Museum of Puppetry. Kenric directed his first puppet show. The views from the clock tower and the fortress wall were quite magnificent.
The double-helix staircase in the clock tower is quite amazing. The two spiral staircases start and end opposite from each other, but never touch as they swirl. One is strictly for climbing up, and the other down. When I saw people coming down, I instinctively wanted to get out of their way, but they were actually using the other staircase. So I climbed and spiraled up, and they descended and spiraled down. It was quite mind boggling because it does something to your perception.
