We woke up to rain in Redlands which is very rare. Sadly, it was time to send Aunt Mary Lu and Uncle Dennis to the airport. They live in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and they’re quite cool. Kenric and I already miss them.
It’s the first real rain in long time, and the gutters need a little work. At Lowe’s Home Improvement Store, Kenric had a hard time deciding on the right kind of downspout, and I was flabbergasted by how huge the store was. I hadn’t thought about the enormity of American stores in a while.
It’s not just the size of the stores; after spending ten months mainly in Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe, we are also experiencing sticker shock. We had lunch in a Vietnamese restaurant, and the overly sweet Vietnamese ice coffee was USD $3.99! That’s more expensive than any drink I’ve bought from Starbucks. In Saigon, the ice coffee was USD $0.65. It was raining cats and dogs, but it was very important to Aunt Mary Lu that we got our flu shots, so we did.
Back at home, Grandma had a productive day. She rescued a beautiful rose from her garden that was getting too heavy in the rain. Before leaving, Uncle Dennis left detailed instructions on a lot of the household chores. But, he didn’t teach Kenric how to say Grace at dinner. Oops! Grandma graciously said, “It’s OK. We can go ahead and eat.”
There was a quick lightning and thunder, and the rain continued to pour throughout dinner. As we were chatting about how happy some people were with the rain, Grandma said the homeless would have a difficult night tonight. So, she missed Grace and had to put in some extra prayers; I give these two Grandma’s Helpers a C today.
My left arm was hurting more and more from the flu shot, and Grandma, a retired nurse, gave me some tips. On TV, the Wheel of Fortune contestant chose the category of “What are you doing?” in the RSTLNE-round. I solved it almost immediately because I took Grandma’s advice to keep moving my arm, and was actually “FLEXING MY BICEPS”!
