Sesame seeds take fried bananas to a whole ‘nother level!
We’re at the Ayutthaya Railway Station. While Kenric was away getting these yummies, a monk seated behind me started talking to me in Thai. I said, “Sorry, no Thai.” He switched to English and asked where I’m from.
“Malaysia.”
“Oh…Malaysia. I going to Sukhothai. You help me. Give me money. I go Sukhothai.”
“Sorry, I don’t have any money with me.”
I texted Kenric to give him a heads-up. He didn’t see the text until he was back. The monk said hi to Kenric. I offered the monk some bananas. He declined.
“Where are you from?”, he asked me.
“Huh?”
“Where are you from? Laos? Cambodia?”
“Malaysia.”
“Oh…Malaysia. I going to Bangkok. You help me. Give me money. I go Bangkok.”
“Just now, you said you go to Sukhothai. Now, you say you go to Bangkok?”
“I go to Bangkok. Ticket to Bangkok 20 Baht. You help me. Twenty Baht. Thank you.”
I told Kenric to just give the 20 Baht (USD $0.62). The monk took the money, walked towards the ticket counter but kept looking back at us. Lo and behold, he bought a ticket. He came back and sat behind us again on the wooden bench that’s reserved for monks.
Kenric left to get more bananas and another iced coffee. The monk stood up, went to the outside waiting area all while talking very loudly. About five minutes later, I saw three men escorting him; one had a “POLICE” vest on, one was a railway officer, and one was in plain clothes.
The benefit of the doubt; 20 Baht.
Two train tickets to Bangkok in an air-conditioned coach; 250 Baht.
Discovering fried bananas with sesame seeds; priceless.
On Another Note…
We were looking through some photos from 2017; Kenric’s favorite is still Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and mine is still Kotor, Montenegro.
