It’s Kenric’s first Thanksgiving without turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy. We could have had “American Tornado Chips” for Thanksgiving. Instead, we had Thai food.
America and all things American, especially Bill Clinton, is very well-liked here in Kosovo. The Kosovans credit him for convincing NATO to take military action against Serbia. Kosovo was liberated in 1999, and formally declared its independence in 2008. There’s a Bill Clinton statue on Bill Clinton Boulevard, and a Madeleine Albright Square. The Star Spangled Banner is prominently displayed alongside the Kosovo flag, which is usually accompanied by the Albanian, the European Union and the NATO flags.
Bill Clinton is a Friend of Kosovo
The cab driver told us Bill Clinton is a friend of the country as he linked his pinky fingers. Vendors who found out we are from the U.S. broadened their smiles. As we were drinking beer this afternoon, four U.S. military personnel (in uniform) walked by. We didn’t get a chance to wish them “Happy Thanksgiving”. With the good, the Kosovans also took the bad, and are having Black Friday Sales.
Happy Thanksgiving. I am thankful for the people in America who are open minded, friendly, just, peace loving, and compassionate. So do the Kosovans.
