I’m really drunk. Apparently, I really liked the “local white wine” I asked for, and had four glasses of it. I asked Kenric if the waiter had a really stingy pour, or if I drank too quickly. He smirked.
Our Airbnb host recommended that we dine at Flamender for a local traditional food experience. We had Venison Leg Confit and Beef Tartar for appetizers, and split the Tafelspitz for entree. We didn’t realize it would be a three-course meal in itself, served all at once.
First, we were supposed to have the beef broth, served in a pot, as soup. Then, we were supposed to fish out the piece of bone from the pot so that we could spread the bone marrow onto a slice of toast for appetizer. Lastly, we were supposed to fish out a piece of rump steak from the bottom of the pot, and eat it with potatoes, kale and spinach. There were three types of horse radish.
Kenric loved the meat, and it was like we had a whole pot of au jus! It’s supposed to be Emperor Franz Joseph’s favorite dish. Who knows? I was just there for the local white wine.
Earlier in the evening we stopped to look up at a balcony because a lot of other people were doing so. Glad we did!
Update: Flamender restaurant was closed in 2018.
