Our hosts had to attend a memorial service today. When we arrived two days ago, they gave us a bus schedule and a German language guidebook for Salzburg (the only one they have, but it has lots of pictures) so that we’d have something to do today. It’s a two-hour bus ride each way.
She drove us to catch the 9 am bus, and insisted on waiting with us. At 9:05, Kenric looked at the schedule again – “Mo-Fr”! Today is Saturday. After obsessively checking bus, train, and boat schedules for weeks, how could we make such a rookie mistake of blindly trusting the locals?!
She took us grocery shopping, dropped us off at a trailhead, and recommended we hike to this hut, Hutzen Alm, have a drink, maybe hike further up. In any case, we were to entertain ourselves, and return around 6 pm.
After a beer, Kenric went to explore more. I sat back to enjoy the view. This is the first time in months that we’re not together 24/7.
About 2.5 hours later, and another beer at another hut higher up, he came back with pictures of great views, and beautiful cows. I would have loved to walk among cows, but drinking three bottles of Radler (beer with lemonade) by myself on a hot day, and saving a bee’s life are not bad at all. Maybe I’m a little jealous of his selfie with a cow.
Day 52
… and we haven’t killed each other…yet.
