We first visited Zagreb, Croatia in October 2017. We canceled our plans to be here last year (2018) when we rushed back to California because Kenric’s Grandpa’s health deteriorated quickly. Grandpa passed away a few days before Thanksgiving, and we ended up staying in Southern California for five months helping Grandma with various things. She’s now nicely settled at an assisted-living apartment in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The main attraction in Zagreb during the Christmas season is the Christmas markets. I’m glad we have the chance to come check them out, albeit a year later. Gluhwein, hot chocolate, sausages, and pork knuckles with sauerkraut can really bring out the Christmas cheer, but it was drizzling and cold, so we opted to dine at a restaurant we liked last time, Lanterna na Dolcu. Everything was great.
It’s good to be back in this beautiful city. As we soak in the last few days of Christmas Advent festivities here, Kenric and I want to wish our Jewish friends a Happy Hanukkah. Chag Sameach!
Christmas is everywhere in Zagreb
Zagreb has been a pleasant surprise for us; a beautiful city all decked out for Christmas. To all who celebrated Christmas, we hope it was a merry one.
