We took a bus from Split, Croatia to Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The scenic journey took a little over four hours including the time we waited at the border while the bus conductor brought everyone’s passport into the immigration office.
On our way into town, both the Muslim and Christian cemeteries were crowded with headstones. Mostar was heavily bombed during the Bosnian War (1992 – 1995). The Orthodox Christians Serbs, the Catholic Croats and the Muslim Bosniaks killed many of their own neighbors.
Twenty two years after the war ended, many buildings have been rebuilt, but many remain bombed-out shells. Regardless, Mostar is naturally very beautiful. I hope it continues to rebound and prosper.
