Yesterday, at Goa Gajah Temple, we saw two young Indonesian ladies taking selfies. When they saw Agus (our driver/guide) and us, one of them asked Kenric to take a photo of them. He took a few and handed the phone back. Then, the girls asked Agus (in Indonesian) if Kenric would be willing to pose with them for photos. Agus told Kenric about it. Being the shy introvert that he is, I was very pleasantly surprised that he smilingly obliged. They posed for a few photos. Agus told us that the girls are from the island of Java, and that while white people are everywhere on Bali, people on Java very seldom see them.
This reminded Kenric and me of one of his grandparents’ travel stories; about being asked to pose for photos when they were in China many years ago. We hope the two girls remember this moment years from now as fondly as we will, and have a good laugh!
