First, Watch Out for Motorcycles
Check out the never-ending stream of motorcycles. And that’s about 30 km (18.6 miles) outside of Ho Chi Minh City aka Saigon. Traffic in the city is much worse.
Eating Pho in Saigon
Kenric and I have eaten hundreds of bowls of Pho in San Francisco; many of them for lunch at the office while I cried about how miserable I was at work. After years of that, eating Pho in Saigon tonight was a very special occasion for us.
Bo Vien
Simple, delicious and cheap beef ball noodle soup. Each bowl for 30,000 Dong (USD $1.29) and priceless extra crispy lardon for free!
Iced Coffee
Excluding the iced coffee my Aunt makes, this was the best iced coffee we’ve had. The guy was really nice and it was 15,000 Vietnamese Dong (USD $0.65).
Maybe The Iced Coffee Was a Bad Idea
I’ve been really unlucky with the food and beverages here in Ho Chi Minh City. After days of horrible diarrhea, I finally had to admit that my second-favorite iced coffee in the world did not agree with my stomach. Please note, I’m not saying the ingredients they use are dirty; I’m just saying there is something in the iced coffee that my stomach just didn’t like. Kenric was fine with it. So, back to my 3-in-1 instant coffee packets for now. It’s too bad because we really like the people there. The lady always brings Kenric a regular chair instead of making him sit in a kiddy chair when we have our coffee there.
Vietnamese Noodles Aren’t Working For Me Either
As for the food, I get extreme and pounding headaches after every meal of noodle soup. ? Now that I finally have the chance to eat authentic Vietnamese noodles, this happens. Thankfully, there are tons of non-soup Vietnamese foods that are also super delicious. Today, we were lucky to find a Spanish/Cuban tapas place (La Habana) that serves really good German food. So it was Sangria and Jaeger Schnitzel for dinner.
