So, you must be wondering, “What’s with Caren/Ah Leong/Peck Yoke and all these stray cats and dogs posts recently?!” I usually try to have a cooling-off period before I post more about this topic, but Noah’s Ark Ipoh Animal Welfare has a very specific and urgent need – to replace its irreparable van so that it can continue its efforts.
So friends, especially those from my hometown (Ipoh), Noah’s Ark Ipoh needs your help. Noah’s Ark Ipoh is a non-profit animal welfare group that operates in Ipoh and surrounding areas. The volunteers rescue lost, abused, abandoned, poisoned, and injured cats and dogs. They educate the public and advocate for animal welfare. Animals in their care are treated, spayed or neutered, rehabilitated, and hopefully adopted.
Since 2009, Noah’s Ark Ipoh has cared for more than 4,500 cats and dogs. Having a reliable vehicle to rush to wherever sightings of distressed animals are reported, and to transport the animals to medical appointments is very important. That’s the reason for my post.
Their van is beyond repair
A few days ago, their trusty and rusty old van broke down beyond repair. Noah’s Ark Ipoh is pleading for donations so that they can get a replacement vehicle. They would also be very happy with the donation of a functional used van.
Many of you know I grew up in Buntong Market. Had animal welfare groups such as this existed, my childhood would have been less traumatic and I might just be a little less crazy. Very frequently, I saw people throwing kittens, puppies, sick or injured pets even those they’ve had for years at the market. When I was younger, I watched in horror as these poor animals were kicked, tossed, and stomped on by cruel fuckers. Many of them were run over by motorbikes or cars; the lucky ones died a quick death.
As I grew older and had the guts to speak up, I had to keep my mouth shut because these were our customers. But I see the same horror I felt in little kids’ eyes. They were old enough to know it was cruel, but not old enough to articulate it especially when it was their own parents pouring hot tea onto the animals or kicking them to chase them away.
I support animal welfare groups
That’s why I support animal welfare groups especially those who spay and neuter. Sterilization is the most effective way to control homeless animal populations and prevent unnecessary cruelty which is simply unhealthy for the human mind. Perhaps I’m just trying to make up for all the times I didn’t help those innocent animals that didn’t need to be born only to suffer a short and cruel life.
Especially those of us who are “Ipoh Mali” please consider donating. Help these people who are helping our hometown. You can donate to them directly through their website at #####.
For those of you who are also on the Facebook group Global Malaysian Network, I will be posting about this there tomorrow (without the personal sob story). Please give it a like if you see the post because your likes will help make it more visible to other group members.
P.S. I’m not affiliated with Noah’s Ark Ipoh, so I won’t know if you donated. Let me know if you do, so that I can give you my utmost gratitude (if you want some of it), but don’t lie to me for it because my gratitude is not THAT great. The four photos in this post were shared with their permission.
