Yesterday, my sister and my niece brought us to a restaurant called Nasi Kandar Pekan Lama (Old Town Nasi Kandar) for lunch. Nasi is rice, and Nasi Kandar is a dish served with either plain or Briyani rice with a big assortment of curries to choose from as toppings. It’s so good and addictive, it’s commonly known as “Nasi Ganja”!
The best part about eating Nasi Kandar during the month of Ramadan was we only had to fight the Buddhists, Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Taoists, and heathens for tables because our fellow Malaysian Muslims are fasting. Sorry ya, my Muslim friends, but I really appreciated the much shorter line.
Nasi Kandar Pekan Lama, like many other Nasi Kandar places, is owned by Indian Muslims. I really admire their devotion because I would not be able to resist Nasi Kandar if it’s within 100 feet (30.48 meters) of my mouth. So, we had Nasi Kandar again for lunch today at the restaurant next to our hotel. See why it’s called Nasi Ganja?
