Kenric, his grandma, aunt, uncle, and I visited Kenric’s sister in San Diego before heading to Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial in La Jolla. His sister has the biggest TV I have ever seen and she served Taco Salad for lunch. Until I can get to the Mission District in San Francisco, I’ll consider that my “Mexican food fix”!
Kenric’s Mom and aunt dedicated a plaque to their father at the memorial as a Christmas gift. Grandma was certain Grandpa would “be real pleased” had he known about it. He passed away just five weeks before Christmas. Unlike many other memorials, dedications at Mt. Soledad can be made in honor of veterans who are still alive. The memorial is at a very nice hilltop spot overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Grandpa’s really awesome. During the 12 years I knew him, he was always kind, generous, funny and loving, but check out the newspaper clipping “Wagon was lost. He wasn’t.” He was not even three!
When we passed by Temecula, I symbolically waved at the kids from there who used to work part-time with me in the survey lab in San Francisco about 12 years ago. They’ve all graduated from college and are doing great things. Shortly after arriving home, I received a message from one of them saying that if Kenric and I are ever in LA, he would take us out to dinner! Glad I waved!
