After 21 years of not celebrating Chinese New Year at home in Malaysia, I finally got the chance to do so last year (2018). We will forever cherish the precious time spent with dear schoolmates, friends, family and relatives.
As unmarried people in the Chinese culture, Kenric and I received Lucky Money in festive red envelopes (Ang Pau in Hokkien dialect, Lai Xi in Cantonese dialect) from married people. We did quite well financially! To my lovely nieces’ delight, Kenric and I broke with tradition and gave them each one.
The Lucky Money we received last year is mostly spent and the photos in this post were taken last year, but Kenric’s “Kung Hey Fatt Choy” greeting in the video is brand new. It was recorded just days ago when Grandma sent him out to the backyard to pick some oranges.
To all who are celebrating the Lunar New Year aka Chinese New Year aka Tet (Vietnamese), we wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous Year of the Pig. May the Piggy bring this world its much-needed peace. Kung Hey Fatt Choy!
