We went for a walk on a trail that doesn’t have a name on Google Maps. We didn’t see any signs on the trail either. Kenric did both the famous Campuhan Ridge Walk and this no-name trail last week. He prefers this because it’s a lot less touristy. It’s really beautiful and the locals were really nice and friendly.
After a little more research, we found out that while the beautiful trail we were on yesterday does not have a formal name, one can access it by going down Jalan Subak Sok Wayah. More commonly known as Jalan Sok Wayah, this paved road ends, but the entire trail is very well-defined and well-travelled. If you find yourself in Ubud (and I know my Malaysian friends come to Bali quite often), consider going on this trail in addition to, or instead of the famous Campuhan Ridge Trail.
The vendors along this trail get very little foot traffic, so if you’re in the mood to shop, give them a chance. The view is magnificent and I just can’t say enough good things about the locals. The farmers looked up to wave, and ninety percent of the locals smiled or nodded when they passed us on their mopeds. Kenric who has been on both trails said there are many more paddy fields on this one, so you’ll definitely have a rice day!
