I’ve slept for a total of maybe two hours within the last 48 hours, but all is good now in the hotel room in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The hotel is just a few blocks from Petaling Street, aka Chinatown, where one can buy “Rolex” watches, “Hermes” scarves, and get good bargains on purses, clothing and accessories. It was easy to say “No” to the vendors and peddlers.
It was a lot more difficult to say “No” when ordering dinner. Recommended by my good friend, Joon May, Restoran Kim Lian Kee’s speciality is Hokkien Noodles, one of my all-time favorites. This was what I’ve been missing for 20+ years; the crispy lardon was amazing. The lettuce with garlic sauce was good; the Singapore Noodles was better after we added soy sauce and spicy sambal; the papaya with fungus dessert tasted a lot better than it sounds; the two large bottles of Carlsberg were refreshing; but ordering the Salt and Pepper Shrimp was a mistake. They all came to 103 Malaysian Ringgit (USD $25.18).
There’s a sign that says “NON-HALAL PRODUCTS” on the liquor shelf at the store where we bought our Tiger Beer.
On our way back to the hotel, we stopped at a stall that sold some fried snacks. Bought 12 pieces of my childhood favorites for RM3.00 (USD $0.75).
The view of the KL Tower and the partial view of one of the two Petronas Towers will be better when I start cooling down in this air-cond room. Goodnight. SFO -> TPE -> KUL
