Pho!
It was a REALLY cold day. We had Vietnamese noodles for lunch. The beef pho and chicken pho were OK, but the spring rolls were very good. It was so very cold that I went back to the hotel room while Kenric went to purchase train tickets for tomorrow.
Potica
We went back out around 5:00 pm. Our first stop was Le Potica. (The location we visited has been closed) You may recall Pope Francis asking Melania Trump, when she visited the Vatican, if she feeds her husband potica. Apparently, it’s one of the Pope’s favorite desserts. Since then, potica has gotten very popular. The shop has been in business since before that Vatican visit, but the shopkeeper said there are certainly more Americans at the store since that incident.
Frog Legs
At one of the Christmas market stalls, Kenric pointed out fried frog legs on the menu. What?! Gotta get me some of that! I asked if frog legs are a traditional Slovenian food. The vendor said it was more a traditional food in the city of Ljubljana, and not in other parts of Slovenia. Eating frog legs is much more labor intensive than chicken wings or crab, but it was worth the effort, but not the price. It was 8€ (USD $9.49).
Gluhwein
We had a few gluhwein, but mainly to warm our hands. I was wearing one turtleneck, two crewnecks, one jacket, a long coat, a scarf, a knit hat and I was still freezing. Kenric’s fingers were hurting from the cold. It was -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit). It’s supposed to be warmer in Kosice, Slovakia tomorrow. It’s forecast to be -1 degree Celsius (30.2 degrees Fahrenheit). Maybe I’ll need only four layers instead of five.
