In Kotor, I go out to feed the cats first thing in the morning before I do anything else. There’s a cat we call Rascal because he is rather naughty and possessive when it comes to food. When Rascal was busily slurping gravy I was tempted to grab him to be neutered. Inside the door was the hamper, so I stealthily put on the gloves the vet lent me and grabbed him. He freaked out but I managed to stuff him into the hamper. I kept the lid closed using a pulled-out drawer and got ready to take him to the vet. When I was ready to leave Kenric had just woken up. I told him I would go by myself.
Once again, the cat pooped in the hamper. I was glad Kenric wasn’t there. He would have threaten to throw that hamper away again while gagging. Rascal must have been so stressed. I opened the hamper to calm him. He was shivering, I’ve never seen his eyes so big and wide. Poor Rascal, I feel bad for naming him based on features I didn’t like about him. He was just a homeless cat trying to survive by eating as much as he could and whenever he could. The vet assistant told me Rascal was female. I was so relieved for her; she will never have to be pregnant or get pregnant again.
It was a clear day. Kenric and I fed a few more cats around Old Town and went shopping for groceries because shops and supermarkets will be closed tomorrow (Sunday) according to a recently introduced law.
I picked up cardboard boxes from the grocery store’s recycling bin hoping to make a sleeping box for two of the three kittens we fixed recently, Pedja and Inky. Momo was taken in by a nice lady. Just a few steps away from our stairway, we stopped to say “Hi” to One-Eye Pete. He’s a young and extremely friendly cat. He immediately jumped into the box I was carrying and stayed inside while I walked. I thought, “You want a ride? Let’s go for a ride!”
Luckily, unlike the orange tabby last night and Rascal this morning, One-Eye Pete did not poop in the hamper, and was easy to handle. The vet was very busy, so Kenric and I transferred Pete into the vet’s cage. He was scared; we called him Pity. If he turns out to be a female, she shall be One-Eye Petra. Please always spay and neuter.
