In 2017, we had Thai food in Pristina, Kosovo for Thanksgiving. Last year, we had Thanksgiving in Redlands, California at Kenric’s grandparents’ home. Sadly, it was just a few days after Kenric’s Grandpa’s passing.
This year, I feel like we had Thanksgiving twice. After staying at Hotel Orestiada in Berat, Albania for more than 25 nights, not only did the owners not ask us for any money, the lady host even made us a special dinner. I wrote about how the dishes reminded us of a Thanksgiving meal. The following day, we learned from the owners’ daughter that it was something they would make for New Year. Kenric and I felt really special. We treated that as our 2019 Thanksgiving meal.
Thanksgiving in Kotor
We are sorry to miss Thanksgiving with Kenric’s family in San Jose. For our our Thanksgiving dinner tonight we went to our favorite restaurant, Scala Santa. Kenric had pork and I had steak. As expected, there was no pumpkin pie, but we had Kotor Cream Pie. It was delicious.
We saved some meat as bait to trap cats tomorrow to be spayed or neutered. We have started using traps that belong to Kotor Kitties, generously donated by its supporters. Complicating our operation tomorrow will be how much Little Inky and Kelly Koh, both already fixed, love Kenric’s leftover pork.
Twice, Kenric ran out excitedly after hearing the trap door closes only to find Little Inky happily gnawing on the bait, usually salami chunks. It’s going to be challenging tomorrow, but knowing that sterilized homeless cats will no longer produce more sickly kittens is worth all the trouble. The photo below shows the 14 cats in Montenegro that Kenric and I have had a hand in getting sterilized, the wonderful Thanksgiving meal Mrs. Barberi made for us, and the delicious Kotor Cream Pie.
We give thanks for our opportunities
Happy Thanksgiving. Kenric and I are thankful for the opportunity to see the world and meet so many extraordinary people. Have a wonderful yet contemplative Thanksgiving. Keep those affected by political conflicts and natural disasters in your thoughts. Donate to help them if you can. Today, I saw a huge graffiti tag on the side of a building that says, “Be stronger than your strongest excuse.” It spoke to me.
