This past October, Kenric and I had a mini cousins reunion with his cousin, his cousin’s wife and their two-year-old in Tuscany. Our agriturismo (farmstay) had only three apartments. We booked the two with kitchens. The apartments were right next to each other.
Kenric and I arrived early afternoon and went for a walk. When we came back, there was a beautiful cat trying to get into his cousins’ apartment. A young girl came. She was probably trying to tell us why the cat was trying to enter that apartment, in Italian. She didn’t understand English, so she fetched the cat and left. I assumed she was the host’s granddaughter. Looking at these photos again, I am reminded of how loving and tender she was with her cat.
The cat came back almost immediately, and I immediately reached into my bag for my best travel companion – Temptations Tasty Chicken Flavor cat treats by Whiskas. Kitty LOVED it and she LOVED scratches. The young girl came back to deliver Kitty from Temptations. Whoops! I didn’t ask her if it was OK to give her cat treats.
“Are you Americans?” I looked up and the young girl’s mother was approaching. Do I admit it? Gosh, she’s going to yell at this ugly American for feeding her cat without permission. I nodded.
“We have been staying in that apartment. We just moved out this morning into the other apartment. When you check out, we’ll move back in because it has a kitchen. Bella thinks she still lives there now and wants to go home.” I’m so glad she was just trying to figure out what language to use. We apologized for kicking them out. We had reserved the two apartments months ahead. They were there to search for a new home and will stay at different agritourismos until they find one. Very “Under the Tuscan Sun”.
Bella tried to break in a few more times. The mother was very friendly and told us where to find a beautiful waterfall nearby that few people know about. They use the kitchen in the restaurant, so we all got to chat with the mother during breakfast. We said goodbye on our last day, but didn’t see the kitty again. Ciao, Bella!
