In 2014, my mother and two sisters from Malaysia visited Canada and the U.S for about a month. They were with different tour groups for the first twenty days. We met them in Las Vegas, spent two more days there, visited Kenric’s grandparents in Southern California, and then drove to Mammoth.
When we got into Mammoth, they insisted on not eating at a restaurant, and asked to be driven to a grocery store because they wanted to get some Instant Noodles for dinner. What?!! Finally, Kenric and I gave in and found some Shin Ramyun (the good stuff!) Kenric and I had Italian takeout.
They apologized profusely, and said they were really tired of the rich and oily food at restaurants, and just wanted something simple. That night, I told Kenric, “Sorry my family is so crazy!” I think he nodded.
Today, when I saw Maggi and Knorr instant noodles at the grocery store, I told Kenric, “I am VERY willing to not eat at a restaurant tonight, and eat instant noodles. He was very relieved because he’s also tired of restaurant food.
So, here’s my glammed up curry instant noodles with Bak Choy (which the German cashier had never seen), one of Kenric’s bratwursts, and a hardboiled egg from our previous hotel’s breakfast bar. Wine; because it’s gourmet.
I also want to apologize to my crazy family! Now I know how you felt.
