It was a very special day for Kenric and me. Not only was the weather perfect, we also got to spend the afternoon with Grigor. Everyone at Hotel Orestiada is wonderful, but Grigor was the one we chatted with the most when we stayed here for the month of October.
We were really sad when we found out he had quit. Luckily, we stayed in touch with his sister who was helping us search for an apartment last year. More about why we needed a long-term apartment in Berat some other time.
Grigor’s sister told him we were in town, and he was eager to meet up. We met at the hotel’s cafe downstairs where he bought us coffee. He remains on good terms with everyone including the owners. Ermal, the other waiter who had worked with him for many years was very happy to see him. Grigor always said that he and Ermal are like husband and wife, but that Ermal also has a wife (and daughter) at home.
Grigor took us for a tour of Berat
The three of us walked along the river, crossed two bridges, checked out different neighborhoods and stopped for drinks. He said it was good for him to walk around Berat and see it again through our eyes, and we said it was great for us to see it through his. Either way, Berat was exceptionally beautiful today.
We really appreciate his perspective on life in Berat and in Albania, and we admire him for his philosophy on life. He is a very special guy and he is very special to us. We are so glad we got to meet up before we return to Kotor tomorrow.
