On February 19th we flew back to California because Kenric’s Mom had been admitted to the hospital. These past three weeks spent at Kenric’s parents’ home in San Jose, California went by really quickly. His Mom is recovering nicely, but there are still many follow-up appointments. Thank you for all your well-wishes. She was admitted to the hospital on Valentine’s Day, and we arrived on Thursday, February 20th, the day after she came home.
Every day, I witnessed his Dad’s total dedication, attention, love and care for his Mom. Starting with presenting her with the Valentine’s Day card that he didn’t get to give her on that scary day, to driving her to her many appointments, to knowing every single detail about her medicine and diagnoses, to keeping track of which of her friends was bringing dinner, to making sure she was drinking enough water, to sorting out which magazines should be recycled when she was done cutting out the recipes, to doing laundry; he was tireless, patient and jovial. It was amazing and comforting to me.
Kenric and I helped out where we could and as assigned. We have also been busy cooking and baking. When we leave for Greece tomorrow, their freezers will be stocked with:
43 servings of 5 different dishes
13 servings of chicken soup
10 squares of breakfast casserole
36 pancakes
446 cookies
300 chocolate rum balls
1 chocolate cake
Worried about bring the virus into the house
Kenric and I have been diligent about washing our hands, keeping our distance from other people at the stores, Kaiser Medical Center, etc., but we were still worried about bringing the Coronavirus home.
It’s been a wonderful three weeks despite the circumstances. Kenric’s parents are really easygoing. We enjoy chatting with them, and watching Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, and even shows on the Hallmark Channel. They brought us out for Mexican food which we greatly missed, we got Chinese take-out, and for our farewell dinner tonight, they went to pick up Mexican food (of course!) while we finished packing.
We will miss them, but we’re sure they will enjoy having their house back, and the peace and quiet, until Kenric’s sister visits to make sure their Mom is drinking A LOT of water.
