Look where this cat led Kenric and me. To the front door of a pet store! I was truly astonished. We must have looked like suckers to Smartie Cat.
It was drizzling, and we were walking through a neighborhood park. A grey tabby doing his business caught my eye. Of course, I had to take a photo. I looked around, and there was a little cat house. Like a moth to a flame, I walked towards it. There were a few cats in it. Then, I started noticing even more cats behind the fence and bushes. The empty containers outside the cat house were filled with water, perhaps from the rain this afternoon, but there was no food. I told them I would bring them food later, and started walking away.
That was when Smartie Cat, who was sleeping in the upper right window, jumped out of his cat house window to rub against our legs. I petted him for a while, and started walking down the street. Smartie Cat followed. Then, he started nudging Kenric’s leg, and walked in front of him. Suddenly, he darted across the street and of course, it was a pet store! He totally earned his meal.
Cat Marketing
I told the young lady at the pet store that I wanted to get some food for the cats across the street. She said, “They are homeless. They eat everything.” I told her it was Smartie Cat (who was patiently waiting outside) that led us there. She joked, “Yes, that’s our marketing!” I thought, “social animal media marketing”. She showed me the dry food, and then pointed at the canned wet food and said, “There’s a man who feeds them, and this is what he gives them.” I got one can of beef, one liver, and two chicken. A man behind the counter said, “They eat anything, but because it is raining dry food is not so good.” I thanked them.
Outside, Smartie Cat was excited, and was much faster going back up the half block to his house. Cats coming out of nowhere started following him. I did my best to pour the food out as fast as possible. There were a few that were either too shy or too scared to come out. Hopefully, there will still be some food left for them when we’re gone. In total, there were at least twenty cats.
By then, Smartie Cat and a few of his friends were done eating, and were hanging out on the ruins of a tile floor. I said to them, “See you tomorrow!” many times for Kenric’s benefit. As we walked past the pet store, the young lady looked out and waved, and I noticed the graffiti that says, “NO H8”.
