Oh, look who’s acting all like we’ve never met before. How you break my heart, Smartie Cat!
This afternoon, as we approached the small hill where this colony lives, one of Smartie Cat’s friends was having fun chasing pigeons. As we got closer to the cat house, most of them were eating. Someone had just left a big heap of liver chunks for them, probably a meat vendor from the market across the street – I’m just guessing. In any case, Smartie Cat and his friends didn’t have an immediate need for food. Hmmm……What excuse can I use to go to the pet shop?
Oh…..On our way there, a few blocks away, we encountered yet another grey tabby that turned into a colony of at least ten. We gave them almost all the treats we had. Luckily, as we were stepping away, a young lady arrived to take over. She must be a regular because some of the cats let her pet them.
“We have to go get more cat treats!”
Cat Cookies
The same young lady we met at the pet store yesterday greeted us with a big smile. I told her the cats were eating. She nodded knowingly. I asked for cat treats, she pointed me to the packets of wet food. Then, a voice from the back room said something in, I assume, Serbian which included “cookies”. It’s the same man from yesterday, he was grooming a cute and calm dog.
The lady gave us a little container of “Cranberry & Chicken Bites Sterilised Cats”. Whaaaat??!! I said “OK!” I asked if the man who feeds the cats buy the food from her. “Yes, every day.” “Can I pay for ten cans, and when he comes, you give them to him?” “Yes.”
I wonder what this hero of mine looks like.
