Yesterday, we went to Restoran Line Clear as recommended by our Malay taxi driver when we first arrived in Malacca. We waited for about fifteen minutes before a mother-daughter duo stormed off because no one came to take their order despite her trying to flag down the staff many times. We took their seats. About twenty minutes later, someone came to take our order. They were out of most things at 3:30 pm. I don’t really like Mee Rebus, but I thought Kenric should try this very popular Malay dish. He loved it! My Kuey Teow Goreng was great but they had to improvise; ran out of meat and kerang (cockles) for it.
To my friends in the U.S., you may love the Satay served in your local Southeast Asian restaurant, but you don’t know Satay until you’ve tasted it in Malaysia! And Restoran Long Line and Even Longer Wait is a great place to try it. We ordered 10 skewers of “daging” which is the Malay term for “meat”, but in Malaysia, it’s understood that “daging” is “beef”. The sauce was especially good. We also ordered five skewers of kerang which I will skip next time.
Since the wait was so long and waving to passengers on boats cruising by in the Melaka River was hard work, we ended up drinking two Kopi Ais and two Teh Ais. Satay appetizers, Mee Rebus, Keuy Teow Goreng and four drinks came to RM 34.40 (USD $8.78). I love that we visited many historically significant places yesterday, but scoring such a delicious meal at that unbeatable price is as satisfying as the meal itself!
