According to the sign at Bratislava Castle, the area of the castle has been inhabited since the late Stone Age. Construction first started in the 13th century. During the reign of Sigismund of Luxembourg the castle became Gothic; during the reign of Maria Theresa of Austria it became Baroque. Tonight, it was all Christmasy. There was a petting zoo with a four sheep and a donkey. It was not the first time I fell in love with an ass.
Back down the hill, we crossed the UFO Bridge. Its official name is “Most SNP”. “Most” means Bridge in the Slovak language. The upper level of the bridge is for cars, and lower level is for pedestrians and bikes. The bridge is perfectly safe, but whenever we stopped to watch the cruise ship and barge sail along the Danube (towards Vienna), we could really feel the vibration from above, and my knees would go weak.
Of course, the UFO Tower and Restaurant was closed for a private event. We walked back on the other side with a view of the castle.
