We went to Hotel Europe for a special Bosnian dessert called Tufahija (pronounced Tufaheeya). It’s apple poached in simple sugar syrup and stuffed with walnut or almond. It’s topped with whipped cream and a cherry. Our friend, Arna, said Hotel Europe is the best place for Tufahija.
Shortly after we ordered, the crew started doing a sound check. It was really loud. People started leaving because it was just that loud. They were expecting the Ambassador from Belgium. I told Kenric that the Ambassador could be there to inch Bosnia and Herzegovina towards joining the European Union. Kenric said they have a long way to go. Sadly, that’s true.
Beethoven’s Ode to Joy is the anthem for the Council of Europe and the European Union.
As of 6:50 pm, when we passed the hotel on our way home, the Ambassador was not there yet. We just learned that the sound check song, Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, is the anthem to the Council of Europe (a human rights organization) and the European Union.
The Tufahija was really good. We might try to make it in California.
